CHOOSING FAITH OVER FEAR

Text:- Mark 5:35&35(amp)

“While He was still speaking, there came some from the
ruler’s house, who said [to Jairus], Your daughter has died. Why bother and
distress the Teacher any further?
Overhearing but ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the
synagogue, Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on
believing.”   Mark 5:35-36 AMPC

If I ask you what the opposite of faith is, what would your answer be? Some will say it is unbelief. However, unbelief is not the opposite of fear. A person in unbelief has not begun the walk or journey of faith. FEAR actually is the opposite of FAITH. FEAR is the reverse of FAITH. What happens is that a believer starts out a mind to believe God in situations and then something happens, like the circumstance becoming worse, then you find yourself between and betwixt. Fear comes into the picture at that point and you now have to decide which to hold onto.

How do you know you have chosen faith over fear?

Exodus 14 – God told Moses, don’t stand still, go forward. When the situation becomes more serious when the pressure mounts or the symptoms increase,  you are tempted to either stand still or even backpedal but God says go forward. Keep pressing on in your faith, don’t drawback.

“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw
back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”   Hebrews 10:38 KJV

Mark 4:35 – 40

Jesus sleeping on that boat symbolizes a position of rest.
Scripture says he that believes enters into rest. How do you know you have
chosen faith over fear? When you do not lose sleep over the matter even though
it appears that it has taken a turn for the worse.

“For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he
said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although
the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”    Hebrews 4:3 KJV

Acts 27:20&21

And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no
small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken
away.  But after long abstinence Paul
stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto
me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

This is another thing to do in other to choose faith over
fear.

Separate yourself from the environment of fear if you can. The Scriptures said concerning Abraham, he considered not his body now dead neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. Take your focus away from the object of fear and focus elsewhere,  focus on God. It is obvious when Paul removed himself, where he went to because he came out with a word from God. This period, we should separate ourselves so we can hear a word from God. That is what will build our faith, and when faith is built, it will overwhelm and overtake fear.

Mark 9:23&24 amp

Jesus said to him, “[You say to Me,] ‘If You can?’ All
things are possible for the one who believes and trusts [in Me]!” Immediately
the father of the boy cried out [with a desperate, piercing cry], saying, “I do
believe; help [me overcome] my unbelief.”

Another way to chose faith over fear is just to do what the father of the child did. Just simply admit to God your weakness and ask for His help. This is also what Peter fic after he stepped out of the boat and walked on water. Later when he took his eyes off Jesus and he began to sink, he shouted for help. When you don’t know what else to do, after starting your walk of faith, and it looks like it’s getting worse, shout for help.
