“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm…….and my people shall never be ashamed”. Joel 2:25-26 KJV

“But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water; And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights” 1 Samuel 30 vs 10-12.

David in the place of pursuing to get restoration, he did not forget to show kindness to someone in need. He has lost wives, children and all he has is the word of the Lord that he will recover them but on his way to restore all; he still paused to show kindness to a man on the way. You can get caught up in your own troubles, trials and need that you do not give attention to the need of someone else you are in a position to help. You can say ‘what I am facing is bigger than your own so do not disturb me’ but you know you have the solution to that problem. You do not take the time to minister to that person because you feel your own need is bigger than that and your own need is so pressing and you forget that could be a seed you will need to sow.

In the midst of your restoration you will have opportunities to show a little kindness but if you get taken up by your own needs and trials that you could not sow that seed; that could be what is needed for that time. That could be a seed that will break the camels’ back, which could be the one that will top the clouds that are already full of water.

David did not neglect that person (1 Sam. 30:12), he took time out to minister to that person, he ministered to him first before asking him who he was. Even after finding out (1 Sam. 30:13) he did not say ‘Oh! You mean I just fed my enemies? – Do away with Him’.

There will always be people that are around you that will always have need and you will also have needs, but there are people around you with need that you will be able to meet. Do not be taken in by your own need so much that you neglect them – they came in your pathway for that purpose.

Another example is the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). Who first saw him? A Priest. Who passed him by and looked the other way; then a Levite who also passed on. On one hand they could be justified because by the law, they are not to touch the unclean else they also become unclean, so they were living the law in that sense but God did not justify them, he justified the Samaritan who had every reason not to touch him (as the Samaritans and the Jews do not see eye to eye. In fact, if that Jew could do anything about it, he would rather die than allow that Samaritan to touch him).

The act of kindness David showed is the part of the things he sowed for his restoration. In the book of Acts when Lydia (Dorcas) died, people went to Peter to show him the woman’ good deeds and Peter came and brought her back to life (Acts 9:36-40) that is restoration also. What counted for that? Her seeds of kindness.

There will people that will come your way to touch their lives, that will be in need of your touch. Pray that you will see those people. Pray that you will not be consumed, overwhelmed with your own circumstance and situation that you will not see people that God brings to you that you can be of help to, minister to, show a little kindness, shine a little light in their path and sow a seed that will catapult you to where you are going. You need to pray this prayer because a lot of things will be required of us in this year -there are people who will be thrust in your faces as it were and there are people you will just happen on, but they will need what you have and you must be willing to take time out of your own schedule and pursuit and be willing to take the time out to attend to them and minister to their need(s).
