Ps. 107vs8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”

Ps. 30vs4 “Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.”

We are enjoined to give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness. Remembering His holiness is to recognize and acknowledge that God will not cease to be God. The God brand is a standard and His holiness is that standard, and the bible says “give thanks to that fact!” We’ll appreciate this more when you consider what God says that “I am the Lord I change not, and because of this you sons of Jacob are not consumed”. This is a standard God wants us to acknowledge and every time we remember it, we should give thanks.

Thanksgiving_inset_9414Ps.22 vs. 1-4 “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

Here, we see David asking God why He had forsaken him…but then he remembered the holiness of God! Who He is and how He has not changed. This is a standard.

Another reason we are to thank God, is for His goodness {Ps 107}. God wants us to recognize His goodness, character and person before His wonderful works. His wonderful work flows out of His goodness. God is defined by who He is, not what He has done. His goodness is the core of His character. The goodness of God guarantees that He will come through for us.

Also, we need to thank Him for His works; what are His works? Ps 103 vs1-5 “Bless the LORD, O my soul: …forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s”.

Forgiveness of our iniquities is because of His goodness, and because we have been forgiven, we are blessed! “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.. .’ Ps.32:1 His blessings are part of His good works. His healing, the redemption of our life from destruction, His loving kindness and tender mercies…the list goes on.

The reasons to further praise God is shown in Psalm. 145vs10 thanksgiv-day…Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

Is there any amongst us who has been restored after falling? He even opens His hand to satisfy our every desire. We are alive not because we are good at everything, or still in the faith or because we’ve got it all together, No! It is because He preserves us. It is not by our power for the bible says “…for it is He that worketh in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure.”

Ps. 145vs21 “My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.”

Let us all use this opportunity to praise and bless Him forever!
