TEXT: LUKE 22:31&32(AMP);

“Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has demanded permission
to sift [all of] you like grain;  but I
have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [and confidence in
Me] may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again [to Me], strengthen
and support your brothers [in the faith].”
Luke 22:31-32 AMP

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved.  How then shall they call
on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of
whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach, except they be
sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the
gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing
by the word of God.”  Romans 10:13-15,
17 KJV

We have seen in earlier teachings that a lack of hope will make a man’s faith fail. Also when we allow fear in,  faith will depart cos faith and fear cannot co-exist in the same heart.  Today we want to see another thing that can make faith fail. Today the definition of fail we will be examining is, “cease to work properly; break down.” That is, what makes faith not to work properly or effectively, or what makes it break down. We will journey through Mark chapter Four starting from verse thirty-five.

“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith
unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.”   Mark 4:35 KJV

Before Jesus uttered the above words just read. It is very interesting what had taken place. He had taught all day on the word of God. Mark chapter four opened with the parable of the sower or rather the parable of the word, where Jesus taught on what happens to the word when it is preached and why (Mark 4:1-20). It is something every believer should study out and know. Then He moves on to let us know that receiving the word is what lightens up your life (Mark 4:21,22). Then He lets us know that it is what you put in that you get and much more(Mark 4:23-25). Then He proceeds to teach that the word produces in a progressive manner first the blade, then the ear, finally the full-grown. It produces thirty fold, sixtyfold, and then a hundredfold(Mark 4:26-29). And then finally, He taught that the word always begins as a seed in every situation but if you stay with it, it will grow your life and bring you to the place of impact and significance(Mark 4:26-29).

It was after all this, the Scriptures say when even was come, He saith to them, let us pass over unto the other side. All that teaching was to prepare them to go to the other side. The purpose of the word of God is to transform our lives. A life that experiences transformation is a life that experienced the other side. And the teaching of the word of God is so that faith will be there to do the needful when the evening comes. Scriptures say faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. But for them to experience the other side they have to go through the evening. “And when evening was come…” What you need to understand is that no day is complete without the evening  no experiences complete without the evening. In fact God’s day starts with the evening.

“…And the evening and the morning was the first
day.”     Genesis
1:5,8,13,19,23&31

You may be in your evening hour, just know that morning is
coming, it has to come to complete your day. It’s in the evening time Jesus
said let’s pass over unto the other side. You are meant to pass over, not stay
under. He said let us pass over unto the other side. Say I am passing over,  I am not staying here.

As they went on the journey,
they took Him with them. So they took the WORD, the Living Word with
them. But where was He? “And He was in the HINDER part of the ship, asleep
on a pillow…” If the word is going to make a difference in your life, it
is not to be hidden away. Remember what He said:

“Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under
a bed? And not to be put on a candlestick?”

And then a great storm arose, and water was getting into the ship so that it was now full. This is what makes faith to fail. (The fail I want to examine here: “ceasing to work properly” or “break down”. That is faith not working properly,  or breaking down. ) How do you mean you ask? To understand this you will have to backtrack to the parable of the sower and examine one of the places the seed fell:

“And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much
earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:   But when the sun was up, it was scorched;
and because it had no root, it withered away.
And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and
it yielded no fruit.”   Mark 4:5-7
KJV

Let us look at the interpretation Jesus gave to the above.
First is the one on stony ground.

“And these are they likewise which are sown on stony
ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with
gladness;   And have no root in
themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or
persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are
offended.”   Mark 4:16-17 KJV

These ones received the word with gladness but had no root in themselves. What brings root is meditation, meditating on the word is what makes the word have root in you. Without root it means the word is just in their head, it is not dwelling in their heart in faith. What you have is just mental assent, your head agrees with the word, but mental assent is not faith. This explains what happened next. When affliction or persecution came for the word’s sake, they became offended. You see the word of God you hear will always be put to the test. You cannot escape it. When that happens you cannot allow offence to come into your heart. Hear this concerning Joseph:

” He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold
for a servant:  Whose feet they hurt with
fetters: he was laid in iron:  Until the
time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.”   Psalms 105:17-19 KJV

Offence is when you allow things like unforgiveness, bitterness, malice, etc enter your heart as a result of what is happening to you. Remember what was happening to the ship as a result of the storm, water was getting into the ship, and so the ship was sinking. Offences will cause your faith to fail, it will stop it from working properly or cause it to break down. This is the reason why some people’s faith fail them.

“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought
against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your
trespasses.”   Mark 11:25 KJV

“For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision
nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized
and expressed and working through love.”
Galatians 5:6 AMPC

Let us take a look at the interpretation Jesus gave the seed
that fell among thorns also:

“And these are they which are sown among thorns; such
as hear the word,   And the cares of this
world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering
in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.”    Mark 4:18-19 KJV

What I am saying is that in your journey to the other side, storms will come, trials will come persecutions will arise for the words’ sake. But you cannot allow unforgiveness, malice, and bitterness to come into your boat. It will cause your faith to fail, or cease to work properly. And in your journey to the other side, you cannot allow anxieties or worries, etc to enter in just like the water entered the boat. It will cause your faith to fail or break down.

PRAYER

I PRAY FOR YOU THAT IN THESE TIMES YOUR FAITH WILL NOT FAIL.
IT WILL ENDURE TO THE END AND YOU WILL RECEIVE THE END OF YOUR FAITH, WHICH IS
THE SALVATION OF YOUR SOUL, YOUR DELIVERANCE SHALL MANIFEST. YOUR HEALING SHALL
MANIFEST. YOUR NEEDS SHALL BE SUPPLIED. YOU WILL COME THROUGH TO THE OTHER
SIDE. IN JESUS NAME.
