It is our belief in Christ Chapel that it is up to the Church to pray God’s will into the earth because Jesus says: “I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the Kingdom of heaven”. (Matthew 16:18-19). Jesus has given us the authority to release His will on earth through prayer.
TEXT: LUKE 22:31&32(AMP);
“Simon, Simon (Peter), listen!
Satan has demanded permission to sift [all of] you like grain; but I have prayed [especially] for you
[Peter], that your faith [and confidence in Me] may not fail; and you, once you
have turned back again [to Me], strengthen and support your brothers [in the
faith].” Luke 22:31-32 AMP
In life’s experiences, when people go through stuff, a lot of things can fail. Marriages do fail, businesses do fail. Long-standing relationships do fail, even money too fail. When storms hit us, things get destroyed, we lose a lot of stuff and we tend to think that, that is what the devil was after, the stuff in our lives. But from the statement of Jesus in our text, we see that what the devil is after is not the stuff in our lives. He is only after our faith in God. So whatever you lose in the battles of life, you are not permitted to lose faith; you are not permitted to quit believing. Your faith must not fail! Your faith failing means your faith deserts you as if it goes out of you when you need it. You are calling on someone you thought is there but the person has sneaked out on you. It’s like going to the bank to make a withdrawal only to discover that without your knowing someone had taken all your money out. And you cannot answer to the need you have. But how do you get to the place where your faith deserts you. Let’s take a journey through Acts 27; it opens in a very interesting manner.
when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and
certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’
band.” Acts 27:1 KJV
Paul found himself on a ship headed for a storm because it was determined for him. Sometimes that is the way life is, we find ourselves in certain situations and circumstances because someone made the decision for us. A family finds themselves in a financial storm because of a decision the man-made that went sour. A company or organization finds itself in trouble because of a wrong business decision, or even an employee finds himself without a job. Children find themselves in some unpleasant situations because parents decide to get a divorce. All because it was determined, a decision was taken without you being consulted. Sometimes life throws such things at us which lands us in places we didn’t think we would ever find ourselves. The irony of it is that at times you seem to know that if you were consulted you could have led the journey in a different path, away from the storm. You even tried to let them know but who are you that you should be listened to.
“Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship but also of our lives. Nevertheless, the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.” Acts 27:9-11 KJV
Paul tried to but who was he? A common prisoner. Who are you? You’re just an employee or you’re just a woman or you’re just a child. What do you know? But before you know it, bam! You’re in the middle of a storm, and it goes on and on and on. There seems to be no end in sight. When some troubles start, people at first carry on with the mentality that it will soon be over and so are not overly disturbed. But after a while, when there seems to be no change for the better then things start getting defined. Relationships begin to find their level, even things you possess. People start disposing of stuff. The bible said at a point, they began to lighten the ship, it got to a time even lifeboats were let go.
“And we being exceedingly
tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship; And the third day we cast out with our own
hands the tackling of the ship.”
Acts 27:18-19 KJV
“A CHRISTIAN’S HOPE IS NOT AN
ESCAPE OF WISHFUL THINKING BUT SOMETHING A CHRISTIAN IS MEANT TO DO.”
